The unrivalled quality of life in England’s Northwest is founded on a combination of cosmopolitan urban centres surrounded by beautiful countryside. Approximately one-third of the region is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
With first-class education, competitive housing costs and shorter commuting times than many UK regions, the England’s Northwest offers the highest quality of life in the UK for relocating managers.
Whether you want city living or a country retreat, the region offers surprisingly affordable housing, with prices significantly below the national average.
There is also an excellent choice of higher quality education – from modern state-run schools to private education offering international qualifications. The region is home to some of the UK’s best performing state and independent schools, with 10 of the country’s top 75 schools at A-level. The region’s 12 universities are internationally renowned with many centres of excellence and research.
Buzzing 24-hour cities like Manchester and Liverpool – with their cosmopolitan shops, pubs, nightclubs, restaurants and cultural venues – are a vibrant place to be by day and night. You could be forgiven for spending all your time eating, drinking and shopping but that would be a shame as you would miss out on the spectacular cultural events taking place across the region.
All of the North of England’s towns and cities are steeped in history, particularly ones such as Lancaster, Carlisle and Chester; and have truly ancient roots and offer a unique quality of life for residents
England’s Northwest has a strong, modern and historical cultural tradition, and boasts a huge choice of theatres and music venues, art galleries and museums. The Northwest region is the most culturally diverse centre outside of London, with three internationally renowned orchestras, a vibrant club scene, restaurants and theatres that regularly host West End shows. International acts regularly perform in the region with greater Manchester being home to more theatres per head of population than anywhere else in the UK. Liverpool is regarded as the UK’s most musical city, producing the likes of the The Beatles, Stone Roses and Oasis. Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture year was a dazzling celebration of its art, music, architecture, heritage and sport.
Home to the magnificent Lake District and four other National Parks, England’s Northwest is truly a breath of fresh air. Its spectacular coastline and forest areas ensures a varied scenery while its tens of thousands of heritage listed buildings mean you’ll definitely come across a genuine castle or two. If you want to explore the great outdoors, there is mile after mile of dale and moorland within easy reach.
On the sporting front, there is first class football, cricket and rugby to follow. After all, this is the home of Manchester United, Liverpool FC and the Lancashire Cricket Club. The region boasts some of the country’s finest cricket grounds and golf courses with the British Open being held in England’s Northwest in 2006 and 2008.
Swimming Australia has chosen Manchester as their European base prior to the 2009 Rome World Championships, the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Manchester also hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2002, which at that time was largest international multi-sport event ever to be hosted by the UK.
